Team coaching is a process designed to help a team improve its performance and work effectively together.
Unlike individual coaching which focuses 1:1 on personal development, team coaching facilitates building the right conditions for
all members of a team to play their part in supporting good communication and collaboration while not losing sight of deliverables.
Here’s how team coaching typically works:
- Assessment: The coach assesses the team's current functioning, dynamics, strengths, and areas for improvement. This might involve interviews, an on-line assessment, and/or observing the team in action.
- Feedback & Goal Setting: The team and coach collaboratively review the results from the assessment and set goals that align with the team's objectives and the broader goals of the organization.
- Facilitation & Skill Development: The coach helps the team develop essential skills, such as effective communication, giving and receiving feedback, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making. Coaching will surface and help the team address current challenges and opportunities to support learning and capacity-building.
- Ongoing Dialogue & Feedback: The coach helps the team to reflect candidly on its performance, motivation and energy, and to make needed adjustments. This might focus on ensuring all voices are heard, balancing task focus with attention to team culture, or supporting leadership become more of a shared responsibility.
- Sustaining Change: The coach works with the team to implement strategies that sustain positive changes, helping the team to continue growing and improving even after the coaching engagement ends.
The ultimate goal of team coaching is to enhance the team’s cohesion, effectiveness, and ability to achieve its goals, leading to improved performance and satisfaction for both the team and the organization. Click here for more information about how Blue Apricot Solutions delivers team coaching.
